When was the Skills Alliance established and who are its founders?

The Skills Alliance for Ukraine was established as a joint multi-stakeholder Alliance of more than 50 donors, international organisations, civil society organisations and the private sector at the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024 (URC2024) by the Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. Nowadays, the Skills Alliance connects more that 80 members active in the area of skills development.

What is the aim of the Skills Alliance for Ukraine?

The aim of the Skills Alliance is to strengthen the Ukrainian government’s efforts in the field of vocational education and training to create synergies between existing and new initiatives of the Alliance members, establish a dialogue between members and the Ukrainian government and to mobilise additional funding for the vocational education and training of Ukrainians.

Who can become a member of the Skills Alliance for Ukraine?

A Skills Alliance member can represent:

  • A donor
  • An implementing organization
  • An international organization
  • A civil society organization
  • A business

Any international or Ukrainian organization, institution, entity or business can join if it shares the Skills Alliance’s aim to support the Ukrainian government’s efforts in vocational education and training, as well as the re-skilling and upskilling of working-age individuals. This includes internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable groups within Ukraine, and Ukrainians living abroad.

How can I apply?

The Alliance is open for new members from the private sector, business associations, civil society, and the international development cooperation community.

If you share the Skills Alliance’s aim to support the Ukrainian government’s efforts in vocational education and training, and would like to become a member, please send an email to the Skills Alliance Secretariat skills-alliance@giz.de expressing your interest.

In your email, we encourage you to explain how you currently support or plan to support the Ukrainian government’s efforts in vocational education and training, as well as the re-skilling and upskilling of working-age individuals within Ukraine and/or Ukrainians living abroad.

We will contact you to answer your questions and schedule a meeting.

Can my organization receive funding from the Skills Alliance?

The Skills Alliance was established as a joint multi-stakeholder platform to create synergies between existing and new initiatives of the Alliance members and to establish a dialogue between members and the Ukrainian government. According to its regulations, the Skills Alliance does not provide any financial support to its members.

Information about funding opportunities within the Skills Alliance network are shared regularly with all members.

What are the benefits of the Skills Alliance membership?

The Skills Alliance connects active stakeholders in the field, strengthening the synergies between their initiatives and projects. This also increases the visibility of the diverse initiatives and projects already underway.

The Alliance offers its members various networking and exchange opportunities through:

  • Coordination meetings, held virtually and biannually.
  • Focus areas, which provide in-depth technical exchange at a working level among members.
  • Mapping of training opportunities and research on skills development

Members can benefit from each other’s extensive experience, identify potential synergies and partnerships, and collectively contribute to Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction efforts.

What are the requirements for Alliance members?

First, you need to express your interest by sending an email and then complete a simple application process by filling out a Commitment Sheet. In this sheet, we typically ask you to appoint and contact person and outline activities or projects related to your involvement in supporting and developing vocational education and training, as well as the re-skilling and upskilling of working-age individuals within Ukraine and/or Ukrainians living abroad.

By becoming a member, you are invited to cooperate with the Secretariat and participate in coordination and monitoring activities.
