Latvia stands with Ukraine. We will not weaken our support for the Ukrainian people in their struggle for independence and their homeland. Over the past three years, the support of the Latvian society for Ukraine has remained strong. A poll conducted at the end of 2024 shows that 61.7% of the Latvian population will support Ukraine until its victory, 64.2% want Ukraine to win the war and the same number believe that by helping Ukraine we are protecting Latvia from war. Latvia has provided almost EUR 860 million in aid to Ukraine during the three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion. This includes EUR 540 million in military aid, EUR 225 million in support of the Ukrainian civilians in Latvia, EUR 82 million in humanitarian aid and EUR 12 million in reconstruction aid.

University of Latvia has a crucial role in the development of society’s academic traditions, national economy, education, environment and health protection, Latvian language and culture. The opinion of the University of Latvia substantially contributes to the public administration decision-making.
In the Skills Alliance for Ukraine, the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Riga Graduate School of Law, and University of Latvia are represented with one project:
• Under the project “Training for Ukrainian officials,” Riga Graduate School of Law is providing Intensive Program in European Law and Economics. The six-week specialized programme is developed for mid-career and senior professionals working in public administration, academia and civil society. It provides comprehensive training on legal, economic and political functioning of the European Union and includes a study visit to Brussels.
• University of Latvia is implementing a young professionals’ school for Ukrainian students and Ukrainian public administration employees on European Foreign and Domestic Affairs.
