Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science works to create a smart, skilled and creative environment in the Netherlands. Its mission is to ensure that everyone gets a good education and is prepared for responsibility and independence. The Ministry also wants people to enjoy the arts, and aims to create the right conditions for teachers, artists and researchers to do their work. The Ministry has the following objectives: to ensure that everyone gets a good education; to ensure that everyone is prepared for personal independance and responsibility; to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to experience and enjoy culture; and to ensure that teachers, artists and scientists are able to carry out their work

In the Skills Alliance for Ukraine, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands is represented with several projects:

• Support vocational education , involving measures taken to promote enrolment to vocational training;

• Promoting learning trajectories, through which Ukrainian children and youth who have been in the Netherlands since 2022, will leave transitional classes and enrol in mainstream education in school year 2024-2025. A fund will be set up in 2024 to stimulate regional cooperation between schools, professionals and local councils and to increase special needs support for Ukrainians students in secondary education;

• Ukrainian Inspectorate: the Ukrainian Inspectorate has asked to visit the Dutch Inspectorate to gather best practices in order to prepare alignment of educational reform to EU standards; and

• Access to teacher professions in the Netherlands, involving funding for school boards to support upskilling and Dutch language learning for Ukrainian teachers or professionals in employment shortage sectors to start a job as a teacher in primary or secondary education.

For access to teacher professions in the Netherlands, as of May 2025, 250 people have been trained.
