UN Children’s Fund

UNICEF, the United Nations agency for children, works to protect the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged and those hardest to reach. By mandate from the United Nations General Assembly, UNICEF works to protect the rights of every child, in times of peace or crisis. The right to childhood is universal. Across more than 190 countries and territories, UNICEF does whatever it takes to help children survive, thrive and fulfil their potential. UNICEF provides and advocates for education, health and nutrition services. Protects children from violence and abuse. Brings clean water and sanitation to those in need. And keeps them safe from climate change and disease. The world’s largest provider of vaccines, UNICEF also runs the world’s largest humanitarian warehouse. Before, during and after emergencies, UNICEF is on the ground with life-saving help and hope. With decades of field-tested expertise, a passion for innovation, and a network that spans the globe, UNICEF turns commitment into action.

In the Skills Alliance for Ukraine, UNICEF is represented with one project:

The PATHWAYS Initiative: Connecting Ukrainian adolescents and youth, both in Ukraine and abroad, to learning, skills and work experience will offer three interlinked opportunities to Ukrainian adolescents and youth to:

  • Access and complete formal secondary education and/or TVET (Pathway 1): Support is provided to students to enroll and remain in secondary education or TVET, gaining critical knowledge and skills for their well-being and future employment.
  • Access first job opportunities (Pathway 2): Partnering with private and public sectors, initiative provides (paid) internships or apprenticeships for secondary school/TVET students in industries (including green jobs) that are aligned with adolescents’ professional aspirations to prepare them for their future transition to the labour market.
  • Access flexible learning and upskilling opportunities (Pathway 3): For youth currently in employment, the initiative creates opportunities for additional skilling and/or continuation of their regular schooling while working.

As of July 2025, 226,195 people have been trained across 20 Ukrainian regions. This includes 135,286 women, 6,602 IDPs, and 2,135 persons with disabilities.
