The World Bank is an international financial institution that provides loans and grants to the governments of low- and middle-income countries for the purposes of economic development. The World Bank’s mission is to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a liveable planet. This is threatened by multiple, intertwined crises. Time is of the essence. The World Bank goals are to be inclusive of everyone, including women and young people; resilient to shocks, including against climate and biodiversity crises, pandemics and fragility; sustainable, through growth and job creation, human development, fiscal and debt management, food security and access to clean air, water, and affordable energy; and to achieve this, World Bank will work with all clients as one World Bank Group, in close partnership with other multilateral institutions, the private sector, and civil society.
In the Skills Alliance for Ukraine, the World Bank is represented with one project:
• The World Bank has committed to different activities under the so-called SPIRIT TA: Social Protection for Inclusion, Resilience, Innovation, and Transformation. These involve:
• Knowledge generation and analytical activities on the impact of the war on labor markets
• Diagnostic of the existing LO/labour market information system and development of a vision/roadmap for an advanced labour market information system
• Advisory service to draft labour code and employment strategy
• Assessment and recommendations to improve the M&E, IT system, delivery and operational procedures to assist vulnerable unemployed (persons with disabilities, IDPs, veterans, women)
• Spending review and active labour market policies effectiveness assessment
• TA on inclusion of persons with disabilities and war veterans into active labour market policies as well as labour markets
• Piloting of a skills profiling tool
• Support to the implementation and evaluation of the graduation pilot for GMI beneficiaries
• Study tours for SES in aspirational countries
• International knowledge sharing events with a focus on strengthening the employability of women and persons with disability
